It’s because Iron isn’t just any shadow- he’s the shadow of the renowned South Korean A-Rank Hunter, Kim Chul. And here’s the twist – Kim Chul met his unfortunate demise at the hands of none other than Sung Jin-Woo himself. Talk about a plot twist!

Before becoming Iron’s shadow, Kim Chul was an A-Rank Hunter affiliated with the White Tiger Guild. 

He was appointed as the leader of a Raid Party, and boy, did he wear his arrogance like a badge of honor! 

With a penchant for belittling those ranked lower than him, he was the epitome of hubris. But little did he know that his pride would lead him down a dark path.

Kim Chul’s Raid Party found themselves trapped in a nightmarish scenario when they realized that the seemingly ordinary Gate they had entered was, in fact, a Red Gate in disguise. 

Panic set in, and in an attempt to salvage the situation, Kim Chul decided to split the group, taking only those he believed had a fighting chance against the dungeon boss. 

Unfortunately, this decision sealed the fate of the others, as they met a tragic end at the hands of monsters due to Kim Chul’s ineffective leadership.

The trauma of witnessing his comrades’ demise pushed Kim Chul to the brink of insanity, eroding his sense of morality. 

When he encountered a group of weaker Hunters under Sung Jin-Woo’s care, his predatory instincts kicked in. 

However, Jin-Woo intervened, swiftly knocking him out during a skirmish with Baruka, the dungeon boss. But Kim Chul’s fate took a grim turn as he was ultimately slain by Igris, another one of Jin-Woo’s shadows.

Little did Kim Chul know that his death was all part of Jin-Woo’s master plan. 

Realizing that he couldn’t defeat Baruka with Igris alone, Jin-Woo executed a cunning maneuver. He killed Kim Chul and extracted his shadow, christening it ‘Iron,’ a loyal soldier bound to serve him.

Iron, the dim-witted yet lovable shadow, went on to accompany his master in countless battles throughout the Solo Leveling manhwa. 

His appearances often injected humor into the story, endearing him to fans who admired his brute strength and unwavering loyalty to Jin-Woo.

As a shadow, Iron closely resembles his former self, donning the same armor and wielding similar weapons. 

However, he has that eerie, smoky purple glow that shadows tend to sport. As he evolved into an Elite Knight Grade, his axe gained both size and an ominous aura.

In terms of strength, Iron is no pushover. He possesses Enhanced Strength, demonstrated by effortlessly dispatching giants and dragging around a lifeless Vulcan’s head with a single hand. 

But his bag of tricks doesn’t end there; Iron can also use the “Shout of Provocation” to taunt enemies, luring them into attacking him impulsively. 

Although this skill has its limitations, as it doesn’t work against foes stronger than him, it’s a handy tool in his arsenal. Lastly, Iron possesses the invaluable ability of Regeneration, making him a formidable force on the battlefield.

As Solo Leveling’s story unfolds, Jin Woo conquers the Monarchs and gains access to the Cup of Reincarnation, allowing him to rewrite time. 

In this reset timeline, the Monarchs’ reign is history, and the Gates are no more. For Iron, this means he never experienced the Red Gate or his transformation into a shadow.

Instead, he lives a normal life as Kim Chul, free from the Hunter’s path and devoid of memories from his previous existence. Just like Chairman Go Gun Hee and other characters, Kim Chul gets a second chance thanks to Jin Woo’s actions.
