Chelsea finally got back to winning ways after 3 games without tasting victory. A spectacular free-kick goal from Enzo Fernandez helped the Blues overcome Aston Villa on the road in the FA Cup. Defining his goal as spectacular would be an understatement, with teammate Conor Gallagher’s reaction proof to the above claim. The Englishman, who had the best view of his goal, was at a loss for words following his free-kick goal.

Chelsea cracked the Aston Villa ‘formula’ just 12 days after falling to do the same in the FA Cup. In the fourth-round replay, however, Mauricio Pochettino‘s men were on a mission to secure progression. Gallagher opened the scoring for Chelsea before Nicolas Jackson added Chelsea’s second within 10 minutes. Enzo Fernandez’s free-kick came in the 54th minute, beating International teammate Emiliano Martinez made it 3-0 for the visitors.

A clip captured Conor Gallagher‘s reaction to his goal, with the Englishman completely in awe of the Argentine’s strike. Gallagher was all of us when the midfielder saw the ball go over the Villa wall before curling into the top left corner, eluding Martìnez’s grasp.

Subsequently, his ‘priceless’ reaction to the goal has gone viral on social media. The free-kick marked Fernandez’s second goal for the club in this competition.

£107-million-man shines as Chelsea master Aston Villa

Chelsea put the disappointment of the 2-4 defeat against Wolves behind them as they qualified for the 5th round of the FA Cup. Pochettino and co. were in dire need of a win given their recent slump in form and embarrassing defeat in the Premier League. It seems as though Chelsea perform significantly better in domestic cup competitions, as they proved the point with an easy 3-1 win against Aston Villa on the road.

The visitors took the lead early through Conor Gallagher, who made easy work of a pass that fell invitingly to him from just inside the area. The goal was quickly followed up with a second through Nicolas Jackson. The forward got on the end of a Malo Gusto cross, before directing it past Martìnez. Villa were put out of their misery in the 54th minute, when Enzo Fernandez stepped up to unleash a screamer from the spot.

A late effort from Moussa Diaby proved to be nothing but a consolation goal for the home side. Following the game, Pochettino said after the game:

Today you can see we are ready to fight. We fight for the fans, the badge and the staff. Now the challenge is to be consistent.
Mauricio Pochettino said

The club are in the bottom half of the league table, with just 31 points to show from 21 games. The Blues are up against Crystal Palace and Manchester City in their next two Premier League games.
