The Lodestone in Minecraft: Everything you need to know

Posted by Valeria Galgano on Wednesday, July 24, 2024

Minecraft, the popular sandbox game, is famous for the vast array of items and blocks that allow you to interact with the environment creatively. One such item is the Lodestone in Minecraft. Mojang first introduced the Lodestone in the Minecraft 1.16 update. This exciting addition to the game has significantly advanced the process of navigation, which has always been a considerable challenge.

It is pretty hard to traverse the environment without using coordinates to display your location in Minecraft. Using coordinates and maps is also unreliable in dimensions other than the Overworld. Compasses, however, are limited to pointing towards either your world’s spawn point or the last bed you slept in to set your spawn point.

How to obtain and use the Lodestone in Minecraft?

Acquire the Loadstone in Minecraft

Lodestones in Minecraft can either be naturally obtained or crafted. You will require a crafting table to make one of these blocks. The crafting recipe for the Lodestone block is pretty simple; however, the material can be hard to get.

The materials required for crafting Lodestone are:

  • 8x stone bricks
  • 1x netherite ingot

Surround a Netherite Ingot with 8 Chiseled Stone Bricks on the crafting table to obtain a lodestone. They can also be naturally found in the world in Bastion Remnant Chests.

Netherite ingot can prove challenging to get, as players need to go to the Nether Realm to get this material. However, the crafting recipe is quite simple if you have all of them. The crafting recipe to craft the Lodestone block in Minecraft is given below:

  • Step 1: Open your crafting table.
  • Step 2: Place the Netherite ingot in the middle slot and all the 8 stone bricks in the slots surrounding it.
  • Step 3: Now drag the crafted Lodestone block to your inventory.

Uses of the Lodestone block:

The Lodestone block is handy in Minecraft. It can change the way a player’s compass functions in the game—yes, the same compass that’s used in making the Locator map. If there isn’t a lodestone, your compass will always point toward your spawn point, where you and other players start. A Lodestone can be placed anywhere you like after crafting it.

If you mess up your placement, you can break the block and pick it up to move it elsewhere. A compass may be used to interact with a Lodestone to activate it. The compass will always direct you toward the Lodestone, anywhere on the map!

This makes the Lodestone quite helpful in guiding players in case they get lost in the vast map and need a way to return to their base. Deploy a Lodestone block in your main Minecraft base, and you’ll never lose sight of it!
