BLISS, Idaho (CBS2 News Staff) — Two bull elk were illegally killed in late November and left to waste in Gooding County.
Idaho Fish and Game says on Nov. 25, a small bull elk was found five miles north of Bliss near Clover Creek Road. IDFG officers determined the bull was killed that afternoon. The majority of the elk was left to waste.
Officers do know that the person of interest is a male who was wearing a red flannel.
Officers believe the second incident happened on Nov. 27. The second elk was found in the same area, north of Bliss.
A spike elk had been shot and left to waste. This elk was found south of Bray Lake off of Dead Horse Cave Road.
Officers also found that two other elk had been killed close to the bull from the evidence of two gut piles left after field-dressing. Officers believe all three of elk were killed at the same time.
“Investigating poaching cases is often difficult” according to Senior Conservation Officer Austin Dupuis, “because physical evidence is often lacking we have to rely on the help of the public who might have seen something that will help us solve the case. I want to encourage anyone with knowledge about either of these cases to give me a call.”
Dupuis encourages anyone with information to report it to the Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) hotline. It's anonymous and it is open 24-hours a day at 1-800-632-5999.
