The UFC announced parting ways with USADA after their relationship turned bitter. From 01 Jan 2024, The UFC will implement a new system to test its athletes. Also, According to UFC CBO Hunter Cambell and UFC Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky, the new program would be more effective and comprehensive. Now, amidst this new system getting in place, UFC commentator Joe Rogan wanted them to give athletes a free hand to use one specific drug.
Joe Rogan, in his recent podcast with Daniel Cormier, discussed the new drug-testing program adopted by the UFC. He mentioned UFC CEO Dana White having a high regard for this organization. As such, he wished them just to allow the drug ‘BPC-157.’ Here is what he said:
There's a new organization that Dana White speaks very highly of them. I just wish they would allow guys to use things like BPC-157. It can help you heal. I mean, guys are constantly injured, they're constantly dealing with pulled discs and yanked that.Joe Rogan via JRE Podcst
The drug Joe Rogan referred to was ‘Body Protection Compound-157’, shortly BPC-157. According to various studies, BPC-157 helped heal various tissues, including tendons, joints, nerves, and more. As such, this would be a potent drug for the fighters to heal their injuries. Even Daniel Cormier agreed with Joe Rogan’s take and shared a story of how it helped a friend of his.
The UFC roped in a partnership with ‘Drug-Free Sports International’ to collect the samples from the athletes. However, it didn’t act like an adjudicator like USADA. So, the UFC formed its own drug-testing protocol and program under the leadership of former FBI agent George Piro. This caused a lot of controversies at the time of the announcement. Also, the effectiveness and credibility of the program would only be known after it has come into existence.
Joe Rogan supports athletes taking banned substances
Joe Rogan always stated his unfiltered opinions through his JRE Podcast. As such, he did a recent episode with fitness influencer Derek, famously known as ‘More Plates More Dates.’ In that, he approved banning substances for fighters in MMA. Further, he briefly touched upon UFC’s termination of USADA and roping in a new agency for dug-testing.
Joe Rogan expelled his take on the new drug-testing program to be more ‘lax.’ So, he supported athletes to take banned substances, especially in the case of an injury. As such, he mentioned the gruesome injury of Conor McGregor and was very supportive of using PEDs and steroids to come back from it.
Joe Rogan had previously looked back on the initial stages of the UFC and expressed his fascination for fighters competing with PEDs. However, the usage of PEDs would degrade the fairness of the sport, resulting in its downfall. So, although the UFC parted ways with USADA, they’ve formed a new testing program partnered with ‘Drug-Free Sports International’ to overlook its athletes and ensure fair play.
